Capital One 360 Expands Referral Program - Now Earn $1,000!

So ... good news.  The previous Capital One 360 referral program I wrote an article about last year has now become even better.

The new policy:
  • $20 per referral, instead of $10
  • You can now earn a total of $1000, instead of $500
This is great news as it's a pretty easy program to game.  Just throw an Adwords ad up that says something like "Click here for a $25 bonus with your first deposit".  Who won't click on that if they are going to open an account anyway?  Boom ... easy $20 for you.  You can get those clicks for 5 cents or so ... very easy money.  Especially if you open an account for other family members and double or triple up the $1,000 bonus.  If you get the keywords right, you'll get the $1,000 within 48 hours or so.  Again ... very easy money!

If anyone wants to use my referral link to open an account and get the ball rolling, then CLICK HERE.  I'll get $20 and you will get $25 (or $50 for a new checking account).  Nice deal for both of us!

Have Fun!

Twitter "Top Tweet"

Not sure if any of you know this, but Twitter has a very simple algorithm to get a tweet to be considered a "Top Tweet" ... meaning it will hang around the top 5 or 10 regardless of duration.  Very handy if you are promoting things!

A few tricks:

1. Open a new Twitter account and get just a few quick followers ... maybe 5 or 10.  Top tweets tend to HIGHLY value underdogs in their algorithm.  Meaning that if you post something relevant and a lot of people see it due to search even though you have very few followers, then you usually get "top tweet" status.

2. Don't use tiny links.  Their algorithm hates them.  Use direct links and hash-tags instead.

3. Stick with the basics ... if you are promoting pet supplies, use a hashtag like #dog or #cat.  It's nice and broad and will pop up on a ton of searches.

Test a few combos out and you will be pleasantly surprised.  I just did "dog" and got into the top 5 pretty easily ... check out the screenshot (CouponSurferDude Post):

Email anyone in the world easily

Do you have to sell as part of your job or business? If you do, wouldn't it be great if you could email anyone in the world?

Sure, but how the hell are you going to figure out someones email address?  It's actually pathetically easy.

1. Lets say you want to talk to a VP names Steve Smith who works at ACME.com.  You have a killer product or service you want to pitch to them in an email.
2. Go to ACME.com ... check out the contact page.  See what the email is for support.  It is most likely support@acme.com  Now you know half the address!
3. If they just have a form for support, it's still easy.  Just Google "email@acme.com" and see if any full email addresses come up.  They most likely will.
4. 99% of email addresses fall into four different "structures".

Structure one is FirstName@ACME.com - this is mostly for smaller companies

Structure two is FirstName.LastName@ACME.com - this is the most common.  Watch out for nicknames here!  If someone is Steven Smith, they could be Steve.Smith@ACME.com or Steven.Smith@ACME.com

Structure three is the second most common.  FirstInitialLastName@ACME.com (SSmith@ACME.com)

These three structures cover 99% of emails.  There are a few other random combos ...

s.smith@acme.com
smiths@acme.com
smith.steve@acme.com

As you can see you only need to try 7 times to get an important email out to an important prospect.

This is a very valuable tool.

Money Hack #22 - Cranking Out LEGIT Surveys Quickly (Up To $75 Per Survey)

So we all know how to find horrendous survey companies that make you fill something out for HOURS and then pay you 20 cents for your time.  Screw that.  Maybe for a stay at home mom with nothing better to do - but you are here to figure out ways to hack money quickly.

So - I found a great research site that partners with huge brands like P&G, Home Depot, etc.  It's interesting actually - these companies pay considerable sums of money to get honest, grass-roots opinions on new and existing products.  Vindale Research provides them with survey takers - all you need to do is SIGN UP with them.

Here is a direct link to the sign-up page for Vindale Research It is free to sign up ... once you are in you'll be able to cruise around and look for high-paying surveys.  It's great really - and VERY EASY to find ones that pay over $50 ... even $75.  Imagine churning a few of these out each day - not a bad side income.

FYI - They payout in PayPal, which makes it even more efficient

Money Hack #21 - Cyber Squatting

We have all heard of cybersquatting.  It was big in the 90's when the web first came about and companies were too stupid to buy their domain names before other people did.  People that thought ahead made a killing, before legislation came in and put a stop to it.

There is a new form of cybersquatting that is quite effective, and not targeted at companies.

Think about it as trying to figure out who or what will become famous before other people do and BUY a domain name that reflects that.

For example - Think about if you watched the pilot of the Jersey Shore and later that night jumped on godaddy.com and bought www.thesituation.com, www.GymTanLaundry.com or something else.  How much would those domains be worth right now?  Probably a lot.

What about contestant shows.  When American idol kicks off and the singers aren't yet famous, go ahead and buy www.chrisdaughtry.com and www.philphillips.com - do it for all the contestants.  A few of them will become famous and make the domain worth it.

There are countless ways to do this - the key is to stay ahead of the masses, think about what names, terms, etc. will be famous, and grab those url's before other people do.

THEN SELL THEM.

Money Hack #20 - Selling Google and Bing Ad Credits on Ebay

So this is an interesting one for you to think about.

How much does it cost to open a GoDaddy.com account?  $3?  Maybe $5 on a bad day?  No matter how you look at it it's CHEAP.

Did you know that when you sign up for certain plans with GoDaddy you get advertising credits?  Google, Facebook, and Bing all give you $50 each.  They are one-time use codes for new users.

So, for maybe $5 you have $150 in ad credits ... how does this make you money?  Easy.  Sell the codes on Ebay.

I bet you could sell each one of those $50 credits for $10 on Ebay.  So thats $30 from Ebay - $5 in godaddy expense = $25 profit.

Why not open a shit ton of GoDaddy accounts and sell the ad credits you keep getting on Ebay. I bet you can get at least a few hundred bucks from doing this.  I know someone who opened up 30 seperate accounts pretty easily.

Enjoy!

Money Hack #19 - Link Farms

What the hell is a Link Farm?  No, it has nothing to do with Farmville - it's a way to make money online.

I've mentioned affiliate marketing in the past, and you can make some great side money doing that.  Link Farms take it to the next level.

Essentially the sole purpose of a Link Farm is to get people to come to your site and click on someone's advertisement that makes you money.  How is that different from normal affiliate marketing?  It's very different.

For example - let's say you have a blog about reviewing insurance companies and you list out a top 10 for readers.  You could have an affilliate relationship with ALL ten companies.  The great thing about insurance companies is that they pay out PER LEAD.  Usually over $100 per lead in fact.

So while people love you and they are reading your information about insurance companies - you are raking in money while they submit insurance quote requests.  Not too shabby.

There are a million variations of Link Farms - but this is an easy way to disguise one.

Money Hack #18 - Sell Stock Photos

Got a camera?  No?  Got a Smartphone with a camera? You had better unless you are reading this from a rocking chair.

There are a few cool places on the web to sell photos, but they have to be pretty unique to make real money.  iStockPhoto.com is one of the better places.  Take a look at the site and see what is selling well - then copy them.  The key is to have unique or eye-popping photos.  Some of these can be rendered on your comptuer with free graphic design software.

Anyway, when you sign up for free, they ask for three pieces of your best work.  Wow the crap out of them and you could heave a pretty steady gig taking/designing and selling photos.

Have fun!

Money Hack #17 - 90%+ Margins at Etsy.com

Now I know there are shit-tons of people and websites out there that tell you complete crap ideas about how you can make $5K a month picking your nose at the kitchen table and selling it online with one hour of effort per week.  This is just stupid and annoying.

However, there is a really cool up and coming site caled Etsy.com that allows you to sell crafts pretty easily online.  Obviously you have to be slightly talented in this area to make this idea work, but you can sell just about anything on there and they actually do offer a quite a portfolio of services to help you market your produt/business (Think SEM, SEO and other advertising mediums).

Anyway - here is an idea that a friend of my wife's did last Xmas.  She spent about $100 in raw materials (Ribbon and other stuff) and created snazzy card holders that you could hang anywhere.  Cost of each holder = 50 cents; retail price on Etsy $10.  Nice margin!  The shipping was also cheap due to light materials.

Think about putting your wife, girlfriend, brother, sister or whoever to work making cheap crafts and then selling them for huge markups via Etsy.com  You only have to be "slightly" creative in my opinion to pull this off.  The real necessity is having a good cheap idea.

Let me know what you have/will come up with - maybe I will buy one!

Money Hack #16 - Working for a Public Company

Some of us actually work for a living ... alright, most of us do in some way.  Some of these things may seem obvious, but if you work for a public company you SHOULD be taking advantage of them.

The first thing many of you may not be aware of is that almost all of the Fortune 1000 companies offer their employees the chance to buy stock at a 15% discount.  I know some of you think that is a stupid idea, especially if the stock drops.  But ...

Most companies allows you to flip it the same day you buy it.  The Federal maximum allowed is somewhere around $10K-$15K, but 15% of that for almost no work at all is a nice payday.  Just buy the maximum stock possible and sell it the next day.  Boom ... at least $1000 in your pocket.

Check out your companie's HR page - you might be surprised.

And the obvious - if you aren't putting enough money in your 401k to receive the FREE employer match then you are crazy.

Money Hack #15 - American Airlines Points & Miles

Ok, so I used to be a Management Consultant and travelled via plane twice a week for over 5 years.  This lends me a bit of knowledge and credibility on how to milk things like free tickets and first class upgrades from airlines.

So ... here is something American Airlines will NEVER advertise, but is a completely legitimate program that will land you in first class on almost 80% of your flights.

Ever heard of Silver, Gold, and Platinum Status?  Discouraged because it takes a million miles and trips to get there?  Well, I have a really cool semi-secret way to get there.

American has something called the "Gold-Challenge" and "Platinum-Challenge".  Basically if you fly 5,000 or 10,000 miles in a three month period and pay a $100 or $150 fee, you will be fast-tracked to platinum status.

This is all about timing.  If you have a big trip coming up anyway that will likely qualify you - just give them a call and take the "challenge".  Pay the fee and enjoy First Class for the next 18 months without having to fly like crazy for it.

Let me know if this works for anyone?  They may have updated prices since I did it a few years back.  I do know that you have to call and ask specifically for the program - they do NOT advertise it.

Good luck!

Money Hack #14 - Affiliate Marketing

Messing around with Google Adsense on your site?  Blah.  Boring.  Getting a few cents per day in clicks? "Yawn"

The bottom line is that unless your blog has a huge readership, Adsense sucks as a way to make money.  Just forget about it.

There is a better way to make a few bucks and that's affiliate marketing.  Up until recently, Google had a monopoly on this piece of the online industry, but a new offering has emerged.

Check out Commission Junction (www.cj.com).  I consider this the more "mature" affiliate marketplace and in my experience it provides a much more informed, targeted way to make money.

Check this site out ... they have great analytics and a solid assortment of sponsoring companies.

The message I'm trying to get across is that you can put a very targeted limited time offer banner on your site and pretty easily make 20-30 bucks a day in referrals through it.  I bet it takes you months to make that in Adsense.  Worth a try anyway ...

If anyone is interested I can post some of the affilitates I have had the most success with.

Money Hack #13 - Google Adwords $100 Credit

So you use Google Adwords ... great.  Tired of paying for it?  Of course you are.

You probably know this already, but Google has become so large that they heavily rely on automated monitoring of "misbehavior" with their accounts.  This allows for a lot of oppotunities to slip through their cracks and capitalize on things like using a "new user" coupon an infinite number of times.

Where do you get a coupon in the first place?  There are lots of options.  The one I like best is eBay.  Go on there and search for $100 Adwords coupon and you will quickly find several options for less than $5.  Buy a few of them.

Open a new gmail address and Adwords account with one credit card, and open another with another one (as many as needed).  After spending $25, you will get $100 credited in each instance.

I have done this literally dozens of times to capitalize on the $100.  If they ever put a stop to it, I'll just use a phony address and repeat the steps.

Enjoy!

Money Hack #12 - Google Adwords

We all see the Google ads on the right side of the screen when we search for something and never click on them.  However, if millions of people see them - eventually someone does.  Good click through rates are typically 3% and above.

I only say this because there is a way to create a few quick revenue streams with adwords by leveraging referral programs.

So it goes like this:  Referral program #1 offers you $10 for every customer you refer and also gives $10 to the new referee.  That's not bad.  Only ... how do you get people to use your link?

Well .. Google Adwords is a fantastic way.  Pop an ad on there that says "Use this link and get $10 off of your first order".  Who won't click on that?  In my experience, about 10% do indeed click on the ad.  Referrers sign up and you get your $10 each time.

In the end you'll probably spend about 20 cents on Adwords to make a dollar, but that's an 80% margin.  Imagine if you had 50 referral sites going on at once?  Pretty decent income.

They also give you $100 credit for new adwords accounts ....
